SUPERSPORTS There were 13 entries for the brand-new Supersports Class and only 4 Novices who decided to test their mettle for the first time in this category. They were: Z. Dilip Rogger (#30, Honda CBR600F4), Kim Ng (#36, Ducati 748S), Ari Nassi (#53, Honda CBR600F3), Capt. Stranic Damir (#4, Honda CBR600F3).

Race 1 In the Open Supersports Class, a total of 9 riders entered with the full spectrum of Japanese Bikes represented. Rod Scott (#19, Yamaha R6) decided to be the first rider to enter both the Supersport and Superbike category but was not able to finish the first race when after the start it became clear that all was not well with his R6 and had to retire after 2 laps, leaving the way open for Kenny Lee (#1, Yamaha R6) to take the checkered flag. Ahmad Faez Yahaya (#46, Kawasaki ZX6RR) brought his bike home in second with Steve Ewan (#62, Honda CBR600F4i) just 0.4 seconds behind him. Andrew Boyce (#42, Kawasaki ZX636), racing for the first time since 2002 took fourth place.

Race 2 Again, pole qualifier Rod Scott was not able to get his Yamaha R6 running at full health and retired early. Steve Ewan got off to a storming start on his Honda but was not able to match the pace set by Kenny Lee who again took the flag and the round win with Steve taking a well deserved second place. Ahmad Faez jumped the start on the first race and was penalized which cost him his starting position for race 2. However he still managed to secure 3rd place in Race 2. Special mention must be given to Amir Hamzah @ Classicracing (#22, Laverda 668) after much effort for bringing the cheapest bike to the race and actually making it through the formation lap but sadly not making it through the warm-up lap. Special mention also of Nils Uchida Zakarisassen (#6, Yamaha R6) who was riding with a knee injury, picking up vital points. Hopefully, he will be able to recover in time for Round 2 and run competitively again.

SUPERBIKES 25 Riders assembled on the grid for the first race with only 4 Novices entering the grid. They were Milton Poh (#71, Yamaha R1), Yahaya Uzir (#54, Honda CBR954 Fireblade), Ahmad Nazri (#18, Ducati 999S) and William Woodhead (#5, Yamaha R1).

Race 1 At the front, Panjang (Lee Ching Hooi, #7, Yamaha R1) secured the battle for the lead amidst the pack, leading Poul Erik (#78, Yamaha R1), Rod Scott (#19, Yamaha R1) and Keith Perkins (#3, Suzuki GSX-R1000K3). Further behind, Tunku Johan Mansur (#37, Ducati 999S) recovered from a poor start from 5th and by lap 9, took advantage of Keith Perkins (#3, Suzuki GSXR1000) getting stuck behind a back marker to get into 4th place and promptly crashed on the next corner (turn 7). He escaped unhurt but was not able to race in the second race because of a broken brake lever. This left Chong Chi Leong (#58, Yamaha R1) MSS Novice Champion for 2003 to take 5th place but he also crashed out at the same corner in the last lap, handing 5th place to Capt Norhisham (#90, Yamaha R1) in his first ever Open Class race. Hannu Holden (#66, Yamaha R1) and Mohd Shahrin (#8, Ducati 999S) followed very closely behind. Chong Chi Leong was sent to the hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder and was unable to start in Race 2.

Race 2 Poul Erik streaked his 2004 R1 to the front off the start and managed to hold on to the lead for a few laps but Panjang’s faster lap times on his ’02 R1 gradually reeled him in and once past started to pull away from the front of the pack of Poul, Rod Scott and Keith Perkins. Panjang again took the win for the race and the Round followed by Poul Eric, Keith Perkins and Rod Scott. Capt Norhisham came home with a credible 5th if lonely, place on the same bike he raced in last year’s novice category. Hannu Holden in hist third ever Round followed in 6th place, with veteran Carl Notfors (#52, Yamaha R1) and fellow Scandinavian in 7th. Further down the pack, a fierce battle was going on with Jeffrey Wong (#55, Yamaha R1), Mohd. Edham (#45, Kawasaki ZX10R) and Mohd Shahrin. Jeffrey tried very hard to get ahead of the trio and made 2 mistakes which he recovered from but a third in the last lap from which he didn’t. Edham got ahead of Shahrin for 8th and 9th respectively. The second corner of the race saw some drama when Mohd Nageb (#100, Ducati 99S), after overtaking a few riders on the outside of turn 1, collided with Dave Murray @ Legend (#12, Yamaha R1) on the inside of Turn 2, sending Dave somersaulting into the gravel. Both riders were uninjured.

The following joined the Crashers' Club for Round 1: Mohd Nageb Majid (#100, Ducati 999S) once in qualifying and also in Race 2, Gareth Williams (#68, Yamaha R1) during qualifying, Tunku Johan Mansur (#37, Ducati 999S) at Turn 7 in race 1, Chong Chi Leong (#58, Yamaha R1) in the last lap of Race 1, Jeffrey Wong (#55, Yamaha R1) in the last lap of Race 2 and Dave Murray (#12, Yamaha R1) in the second corner of race 2

The Crashers' Club prize goes to Nageb, who not only managed to crash his Ducati 999S twice in the weekend but also his Mercedes the day before. Special style mention to Dave Murray for doing one and a half somersaults in his crash. Congratulations to all on a great weekend!
